The Wonders of Herbs in Curing Diseases



Since the origin of man, plants have played an important role in curing human diseases. From past thousands of years of trial and error, humans found which plants were good for treating their illnesses and which herbs would cure or help with their health problems.



At first alchemists had recognised its worth, then the chemists and medical science instigated to break down the plant into chemical and molecular divisions and with that beginning, laboratories began to produce "man-made" drugs for treating human diseases. 



Although pharmaceuticals generated medicines are very useful; but the natural herbs and their uses continue to play a large role in the treatment of human diseases just as they have for thousands of years.



Herbs used today are either in the powders, ointments, salves and teas etc. powder form is a fine mixture of ground leaves and stems, salves are thick oils or bees wax, while teas are made by boiling the leaves in hot water. These all forms are used to treat and cure diseases. Here is a list of herbs used to treat human diseases:

  • Agar: Agar is an alga from seaweed; it is gelatinously thicker and is also a natural laxative.
  • Agrimony: Agrimony is a treasured medicine for the digestive system as it fuels the digestive and liver secretions. It is also used for throat irritation relief. Helps skin problems.
  • Alder Tree: Its uses leaves for swelling. Used to relief inflammation of the breast and pains in the legs and feet.
  • Alfalfa: Alfalfa is a highly nutritive herb, good for the pituitary gland; it alkalizes the body rapidly and detoxifies the liver.
  • Aloes: Aloe such as Aloe Vera, are good for burns and are also used to cure a certain type of skin cancer.
  • Angelica: Angelica uses the plant and its seeds. Roots and leaves are prepared as medicine; the remainder of the plant is used in food preparations. This herb is a useful treatment for coughs and lung problems.
  • Aniseeds: Aniseeds use the dried fruit. Oil of Aniseed is used to treat intestinal problems and coughing. By making an ointment from oil of Aniseed; it can be used to treat lice on humans and fleas on pet animals.
  • Apple Tree: Apple Tree uses the bark to create a tonic that will treat gravel in the bladder and as a treatment is reducing fever. Grind the bark in a coffee bean grinder then make a tea by placing a teaspoon of the ground powder into a cup of hot water.
  • Arnica: Arnica is a herb that is not to be taken internally, this is an excellent treatment for bruises and sprains. Used to treat joint pains. Make a herb powder then mix a half teaspoon of the powder with a teaspoon of Vaseline or mineral oil. Rub on irritated area.
  • Arrowroot: Use as a demulcent and nutritive food for urinary and bowel affections in infants and invalids in convalescence.
  • Saffron: The use of saffron comes down to us from antiquity; the spice was used by ancient Greeks, Indians, and Egyptian in both cooking and medicine.
  • Uva Ursi: Uva ursi contains a considerable amount of tannins ( up to 40 percent) making it one of nature’s most powerful astringents. 
These are a few of the thousands of herbs used to cure human diseases and are generally supposed to be very effective and free of all side effects.
