If you have Type 2 diabetes, you
need to find ways to control it. One way is to use specific herbs with
medicinal properties. Always ask your doctor before trying anything new in case
it has side effects.
Few of the herbs that might be able
to help you:
Blueberry leaves contain various acids that help to reduce blood sugar and
triglyceride levels. It can also help treat eye disease, cardiovascular disease
and digestive problems. The simplest way to use the leaves is to make a tea by
soaking them first in cold water and then boiling them for around 15 minutes. A
few cups each day for a few months should help you.
Salt bush is full of chromium and makes it helpful for controlling
your tolerance to glucose.
Fenugreek seeds contain amino acids and alkaloids which help with many
health issues such as:
- reducing the rate of glucose absorption,
- reducing triglyceride and cholesterol levels,
- increasing your response to insulin,
- slowing the gastric emptying process; they also contain high amounts of fiber.
You can chew the seeds dry, or wet
after soaking in water, or make them into a powder depending on your
preference. Be wary as they may cause diarrhoea or low blood sugar.
Ginseng boosts your immune system, increases your cells' ability to
use sugar, boosts the secretion of insulin from your pancreas, and reduces the
rate of carbohydrate absorption. You can take ginseng in a tablet, capsule or
tincture form.
Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) helps decrease nerve pain, burning and numbness.
It helps your muscles take in more sugar for energy, and it neutralizes
different free radicals. If you have too many free radicals, nerve damage kicks
in. An average dose is 650-750 Mg's each day to be effective.
Curry leaves are popular in Indian and Asian dishes and have a positive
effect on your pancreatic beta cells. They help with:
- weight loss,
- stabilizing blood sugar levels, and
- balancing your enzymes.
Bitter Melon helps to suppress your cravings from sweet foods. It lowers
blood sugar and removes sugar from your blood so it can enter your cells. It
does have a bitter taste but the easiest way to consume it is to make it into a
fresh juice, although you can buy tablets.
There are a vast number of herbs you
can use to help with your diabetes. Always talk to your doctor before trying
any of them. Many people use a few together and that makes their effect much
stronger. You won't know how much they will help until you have tried them for
a fair amount of time but, if you have a negative reaction stop their use
immediately.
Type 2 diabetes is not a condition
you must just live with. It is possible for you to take control of the disease
and take back your health. Herbs that show great promise in the treatment of diabetes, may help you.
